Multiple subnets, with their own Failover/Floating IP assigned to that subnet. I have historically followed this guide to get pfSense and the initial egress networking working.

I currently have 2 dedicated hosts, 2 physical NIC's on each host and have Proxmox as the hypervisor, pfSense as the vRouter and then a /29 failover/floating IP block assigned to the host with OVH.
